The Headwaters Haus Story
A Longtime Legacy
The story began in the early 1990s, when Anne and Dale Pizel helped Jim and Mary Linda Rich find what would become their beloved fishing retreat in Creede. For decades, the cabin became a place where memories were made, filled with laughter, creativity, and generations of family and friends returning to experience the magic of the mountains.
Thirty years later, the story came full circle when the Pizel family purchased the home from the Rich family. With deep respect for its history, we thoughtfully renovated the space to preserve its character while creating a modern mountain retreat designed fortoday’s adventurers.
Every detail was curated to feel elevated yet comfortable, a placewhere you can spend the day exploring the outdoors and come back to unwind by the river.
Today, Headwaters Haus is designed for those who crave mountain mornings, river days, ski weekends, campfire nights, and the kind of moments that make you want to stay a little longer. Whether you’re here to fish the Rio Grande, explore the surrounding national forest, ski Wolf Creek, or simply disconnect from the noise, we hope Headwaters Haus feels like your home in Creede.

The renovations
Built with Intention
When we took ownership, we renovated the space with care, updating what needed updating while being deliberate about what we kept. The goal was never to start over, but to make the cabin feel like the best version of what it had always been.

Right on the Water
Most cabins near Creede offer mountain views. The Headwaters Haus offers something rarer: mountain views and the Rio Grande running directly alongside the property, close enough to hear from inside.
An intentional Renovation
Two private suites, a fully equipped kitchen stocked and ready to use, fast WiFi, a sunroom, and two fireplaces are ready to be used. The Headwaters Haus was renovated with the kind of attention to detail.
A town worth the drive
Creede isn't on the way to anywhere, which is exactly the point. It's a small, genuine mountain town with real history, good food, and access to some of the best fishing, skiing, and backcountry in Colorado.
